Summer Tips

Wbkgr.jpg

Hi ! My Name is Walter!

I just want to make sure my fellow dogs and I stay safe this summer!

Here are my tips:

  • The asphalt gets hot and can hurt my paws - please let me walk on cement or on the grass.

  • Check me for ticks after our walk! Please spray me with flea and tick repellent like Rose Geranium, which is natural. The best defense is a good brushing after our walks!

  • Don't let me eat any of those tasty-looking cicadas. They could make my stomach upset because of their tough shells - and you wouldn't want me to cough them up on that lovely new rug!

  • Please don't leave me in the car -it gets very hot very fast! If I get too hot, I might get heatstroke! If you think I might be too hot, put me in a big bath with cool water and let me drink as much as I can.

  • Keep me cool - I can't sweat like you do! My body temperature is naturally higher than yours, and my fur coat makes it tough to beat the summer heat.

  • Maybe I'm not a beach dog. Not every person likes the beach, and we dogs are the same. The sand gets in between my paws, and the big crowds are full of strangers. If we take a trip to the beach, please make sure there is shade. And watch me in the water - not every dog is a natural swimmer!

  • Vacations can stress me too! Not just the heat can bother me this summer. When you pack for vacation, I know you're going. Please spend extra time with me before you leave and if possible, leave me in the care of someone I know. Even though I might look tough, I will be sad when you leave!

If you have any questions about my tips, just ask my Mom - Diane - or any of her helpers in the store!
